The 13th International Workshop on
Seismic Anisotropy

The 13th International Workshop on Seismic Anisotropy (13IWSA) will be held from August 10-15, 2008 at the Winter Park Lodge in Colorado, USA. The Workshop is organized by the Center for Wave Phenomena at Colorado School of Mines in cooperation with ION Geophysical/GXT Imaging Solutions.

Winter Park is a beautiful and quiet mountain town about 70 miles from Denver; information about the hotel's amenities can be found on http://www.winterparkhotel.com/. Directions to Winter Park from Denver International Airport or shuttle information is found on http://www.winterparkhotel.com/directions.html

For general information about the area, we recommend http://www.winterpark-info.com/.

The Workshop Program

The Workshop will cover both theoretical and applied aspects of seismic anisotropy in earth sciences. In particular, the Workshop will focus on applications of anisotropic models and methods in exploration and global seismology as well as in reservoir monitoring. Key areas will include multicomponent seismic, anisotropic velocity analysis and P-wave imaging, processing and inversion of wide-azimuth data, seismic fracture characterization, fluid flow in fractured media, effective medium theory, stress monitoring and earthquake prediction, time-lapse seismic monitoring, frequency-dependent anisotropy and upscaling issues, poroelasticity, etc.

The Workshop will open with a dinner and icebreaker the evening of August 10 (Sunday). In keeping with the tradition, Wednesday will be a free day with one or two offered excursions in the Rocky Mountains. View the excursion options. The last session of the Workshop will be in the afternoon of August 15 (Friday). A special violin/piano recital will be presented prior to dinner Thursday, August 14.
