Thomas Planès

CWP Visiting Scholar
E-mail: tplanes@mines.edu

Thomas joined CWP in September 2015 to work with Prof. Roel Snieder on imaging techniques based on the time reversal of the wavefield. Prior to that, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Michael Mooney's team, in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. His main project concerned the monitoring of earthen embankments using passive seismic methods. Thomas received his PhD in geophysics in 2013 from the University of Grenoble, France. During his PhD studies, he worked on imaging in strongly scattering media at the Institute for Earth Sciences (ISTerre), under the supervision of Eric Larose. He holds a Master's degree in physics from the University of Toulouse, France.

Research

Thomas' research interests lie in the fields of wave propagation and imaging in complex media. He works on active and passive imaging techniques at different scales and across various disciplines such as non-destructive evaluation of materials and time lapse monitoring of civil structures and geophysical objects.
